F.A.Qs

1. What does "MR" mean?

  • The term "MR" is a type of grade which stands for "Moisture Resistant" which can describe either plywood or block board.
  • It is mostaly suitable for use in the interior for making office and home furniture.
  • It can resist humidity and moistire but that does not indicate that it is water resistant or water proof.

2. What is “Marine” Plywood or “BWP” Grade?

  • “Marine” Plywood & “BWP” (Boiling Water Proof) Grade both comes under the same category of Government Regulation ISI: 710. Hence both the terms have the same meaning for Plywood and Block Board which is suitable for wet and humid conditions.
  • It is mostly used in those areas which are directly in contact with water like ships, boats and construction of docks.
  • It can be also used in exteriors of houses and offices or those interiors where furniture comes directly in contact with water.
  • Marine Plywood is strong and durable and can resist invasion by fungus and microbes

3. What is “Gurjan”?

  • Gurjan material is extracted from Gurjan trees.
  • It is known for its great strength, durability and its toughness.
  • Gurjan is used in Premium Range of Garnet ply products which is very superior in quality and is also priced on a higher side than other.

4. What is “Calibration”?

  • Calibration is a process done in a machine to make the plywood or block board at equal thickness at all 4 corners of the product. It removes the unwanted extra thickness so that the consumer gets the thickness he/she requires.
  • It gives the plywood extra smooth finish.
  • Such calibrated products of Garnet are highly suitable for Veneer or Mica Lamination, Fabrication or Paneling purposes.

5. What is “Double Hot Press” Technology?

  • Manufacturing of plywood is a step wise process.
  • In Double Hot Press Technology, after initial assembly of core veneers, they are pressed with HOT PRESS for first time and then cut and calibrated. After which the calibrated panel is glued and laminated with red colour “Gurjan” face veneer for second hot press.
  • This Double Hot Press Technology reinforces the glue giving the plywood superior strength, bonding, toughness and durability.

6. What is “Triple Hot Press” Technology?

  • Triple Hot Press Technology is applied only for Teak Products.
  • The core veneers are first Hot pressed after initial assembly, then cutting, calibration and gluing is done followed by second Hot Press to laminate Red Gurjan Face. In the end, third Hot Press is applied for lamination of decorative veneer or teak veneer on it.
  • Pressing 3 times in a row or the Triple Press gives the Teak or any decorative plywood extra strength and longer life.

7. How is 7 layer Block Board better than others?

  • The 7 layer Block Board is made from 4 layers of core veneers with a filler in the center which counts as one layer. The panel is than laminated with two red Gurjan face veneers on both sides of the board making all seven layers bonded together with high quality glue.
  • The 7 layer Block Board is far more stable, stronger and durable than others making it suitable for balanced construction.

Create your space with the most robust and durable plywood, the best Moisture Resistant (MR) plywood by Garnet

MR Plywood, one of the most widely used plywood

In modern times, you cannot imagine any home, office or any other space without the use of ever versatile plywood. Offering diverse uses, it helps to build walls, flooring, furniture and more. Made from gluing together layers of wood, plywood ensures minimum wastage and maximum utilization of logs of wood. With its great adaptability, uniform strength, durability and affordability, it gives several advantages in contrast to traditional wood. There are several kinds of plywood depending on the kind of wood used, application, process or properties. Among these, MR plywood is most preferred and widely used plywood in the construction and architecture industry. Garnet, a renowned Commercial Plywood manufacturer offers the best Moisture Resistant (MR) plywood for all your residential and commercial needs.

It is Moisture resistant, not water proof - Avoid Confusion

MR plywood, often referred to as commercial plywood, offers great resistance to humidity and moisture, thereby called Moisture Resistant Plywood. However, it is not waterproof plywood and many people often confuse in this regard. Although, it can easily resist moisture and is preferred in hot, humid climate conditions especially in tropical regions, but it cannot withstand continuous exposure to water. Therefore, it is used in indoor areas such as shelves, wardrobes, cabinets, roof decking, doors and other interior furniture but avoided in areas that have consistent water exposure such as washbasins, kitchen sinks or seepage-prone walls.

The best Moisture Resistant (MR) plywood - Engineered to withstand moisture

MR plywood is made from different layers of veneers that are glued together with a special adhesive, melamine urea formaldehyde resin that blocks the minute pores or openings present in the wood. As a result, the moisture is unable to enter the plywood. Garnet brings the best Moisture Resistant (MR) plywood with ISI certification that is further processed using the Quadro-pressed technology allowing superior bonding of layers, eliminating surface core gaps and making the plywood stronger, harder, durable and warp free.

Features that make MR plywood the preferred choice

  • Strength is in the core

MR Plywood is made from veneers of superior quality hardwood timber that make it stronger and durable, fit for commercial and residential use.

  • Durability that stands the test of time

Plywood has greater longevity owing to the various layers it is made from. Besides, MR Plywood has the highest internal density among the several plywood available, making it tough and resistant to wear and tear, preventing warping and folding. As a result, it increases its dimensional stability, longevity and durability; thereby it is counted among the most suitable plywood for residential or commercial purposes.

  • Termite and Borer Resistant MR Plywood by Garnet, renowned commercial plywood manufacturer

Termites and borers are the greatest enemy of any woodwork or furniture, but thankfully MR Plywood offers safety from these attackers. Garnet, the most well known commercial plywood manufacturer, treats its MR Plywood with superior quality chemicals that ensure that your plywood is able to resist these pests to a great extent and save your precious woodwork.

  • Keeps away the impact of moisture

The basic advantage of any MR Plywood is its ability to save the woodwork from the impact of moisture. Plywood is made from several layers of wood glued together with a veneer top. These layers provide stability and strength allowing plywood to be used for various applications. However, just like wood, these layers are susceptible to the impact of moisture and humidity as these may absorb it when exposed directly or indirectly.

As a result, wood expands on hydration followed by shrinking when it becomes dry. This process of expansion and reduction in most cases may have some impact requiring a joint to absorb the mobility and allow expansion. However, in some specialized products or furniture such as closets or any others that have less tolerance, the consistent expansion and reduction over a period of time may result in warping of the finished product.

Even the adhesive urea formaldehyde, used usually to make plywood is susceptible to moisture and may absorb it causing the various sheets within the plywood to pull apart or deform. This could result in de-shaping of the product. By choosing MR Plywood over the usual plywood, it is possible to save furniture and other wood work from these impacts of moisture and slow down considerably, the deformation of layers of plywood and avoid any kind of warping or damage to them.

The special adhesive used for MR plywood bonds the layers better preventing moisture to seep in. As a result, there is little or no need to have an expansion joint and risk of warping is reduced completely. The MR Plywood can be safely used in areas with high levels of humidity and temperature such as restrooms or in basements where usual plywood does not suffice.
